Studio HAK’s Terrazzo-Like Debris Series Is Made From Plastic and Concrete

One man’s trash is another man’s furniture. Designed in collaboration with Amore Pacific and Oaah Agency and manufactured by Dcrete, the Debris Furniture Series by Hakmin Lee of Studio HAK is inspired by GPGP, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch which is a collection of marine debris in the Pacific Ocean. In an effort to raise awareness about recycling plastic waste, Hakmin turned empty cosmetic bottles, which were returned by customers through Amore Pacific’s green cycle campaigns, into flakes and mixed it with UHPC concrete. The end result is a material with a terrazzo-like pattern, which Hakmin used to create the Debris furniture series consisting of a bench, side table and stool.
